About Us

Precision People's Car Repair is a locally owned and independent garage located off of San Pablo and Camelia in Berkeley, CA.

Ken Shapiro opened the shop in 1972 under the name Precision VW Repair, primarily servicing VW Beetles. You could find these beetles getting rebuilt and serviced daily. Unfortunately, VW is copyrighted and Volkswagen was quick to send a letter stating just that. Ken ultimately changed the name to Precision People's Car Repair, as Volkswagen directly translates to People's Car.

In 1980 we started servicing Japanese cars and trucks. In the mid 1990's we branched out to domestic vehicles. Moving into the early 21st century we saw the demand for Dodge and Mercedes Sprinters, and pick-ups up to a 3/4 ton, so we installed a lift that can accommodate any larger vehicle up to 16,000 pounds. We are the only independent garage that can handle these trucks safely.

We are equipped with the latest diagnostic hardware and software to handle modern vehicles. From computer diagnostics to sensor and circuitry testing, we can handle it all.

As time has gone on, the new name has come to serve the business well. It reminds us of our past, and defines our future. We now service all makes and model of cars, light trucks, Dodge Sprinters and, of course, Volkswagens.

We offer a wide variety or service and repairs, so please don't hesitate to call our stop by for an estimate!
